J&K Transitional Cabinet Doors

Transitional is the middle ground, and the biggest of J&K’s three families — twelve of the twenty door styles we show. A simple frame with just enough profile to catch light: less plain than the contemporary doors, less decorated than the traditional ones. It covers the E, B, H and K codes, from Dove and Pure through Chestnut, Espresso and Naval.

Construction

These share the line’s construction: 100% solid wood, a 3/4″ thick solid-wood full-overlay door, drawers of 5/8″ solid wood on all sides in dovetail construction, and a cabinet-grade plywood box with a clear-coated interior and corner-bracket reinforcement in the base cabinets.

Doors run on 6-way adjustable, soft-close hidden Euro-style hinges and drawers on soft-close concealed undermount glides, with quiet-closing door bumpers. Center panels differ by code: J&K builds the B styles with an all-wood reversed raised panel and the E styles with a plywood center panel, matched to each door design.

Finishing is the same ten-step, hand-rubbed process used across the line — equalizer stain, toner, a deep penetrating stain, hand-rubbing, sealing, hand-sanding, an optional hand-applied glaze and a top coat. The hardwood-plywood is EPA TSCA Title VI (CARB 2) compliant and the coatings are AkzoNobel.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is the family between the other two. The frames are simple, but they carry a little shaping — a step, a soft bevel, a narrow inner edge — so the door is not as flat as a contemporary style and not as worked as a traditional one. It is the group that sits comfortably in an older house and a new one.
Twelve of the twenty J&K styles we show sit here, and that reflects where most kitchens land. The middle ground pairs with the widest range of countertops, hardware and flooring, so a manufacturer tends to offer more of it. It also means the finishes in this family cover the broadest spread, from pale whites and greiges through to near-black.
In how the center panel is built. J&K builds the B styles with an all-wood reversed raised panel and the E styles with a plywood center panel, matched to each door design. From the front the difference is subtle, but it is worth knowing if you want solid wood throughout the door face rather than just the frame.
