Fabuwood Nickel Kitchen Cabinets
Available on Galaxy, Luna, Nexus, Luxe and Echo doors
Of the grays Fabuwood keeps in stock, this is the one with almost nothing added — a light-to-mid gray sitting close to true neutral. It is opaque paint on a flat recessed panel, so the surface reads even and quiet. It suits people who want gray without blue, green or beige creeping into it.

Color & Look
The measurement on this one is almost the whole story: saturation barely registers, which means the color has no strong direction to it. Next to a blue-gray it looks warm; next to a greige it looks cool. On its own it simply reads gray, a shade or two above middle value — light enough to keep a room open, deep enough to hold an edge against a white countertop. Paint this neutral is unusual, and it is why Nickel behaves so predictably.
Because there is so little pigment steering it, Nickel borrows from whatever surrounds it. North light gives it a faintly cool, overcast cast and the doors can look like wet concrete on a gray day. South light warms it and the same doors go slightly putty. Wall color tints it too: a warm white wall pulls beige out of it, a cool white pushes it toward silver. Test the door against your actual wall paint, not against a white sample board.
Most people call it a greige on first look, then are surprised when a true greige sits beside it and shows its brown. It also gets mistaken for a weathered gray stain, though nothing here is stained — the paint is opaque and the wood underneath never shows. The Luna door has a flat recessed panel with a shallow step at its edge, so the only variation you get is the soft shadow line running around the panel.
Construction & Quality
Nickel is a Fabuwood Allure finish. It is available on Galaxy, Luna, Nexus, Luxe and Echo doors, all built on plywood cabinet boxes with solid-wood drawer boxes assembled with dovetail joints.
On the framed panel doors, the door frames are joined with mortise-and-tenon joinery. Every Fabuwood cabinet is fitted with Blum soft-close hinges and drawer systems. Fabuwood backs its cabinetry with a lifetime warranty, with a separate Blum warranty on the hardware, and lists CARB2 compliance and ICC-ES and AWI/QCP certification.
Fabuwood groups its colors in tiers: Nickel is a Signature color, the tier Fabuwood keeps in stock.
Where It Works
Mid-gray is forgiving across a whole kitchen because it does not fight anything, and Nickel run floor to ceiling in a bright room looks composed rather than cold. In a darker kitchen we would rather see it on the lowers with a white or off-white above, or on the island alone, where it reads as a deliberate choice instead of a default. It also holds its own against stainless appliances, which a warmer gray often fails to do.
It fits contemporary and transitional kitchens most easily, and it makes a good backdrop for a strong floor or a heavily veined countertop, since the cabinets will not compete. Outside the kitchen it is a sensible laundry or mudroom color — a mid-gray hides the handprints and scuffs a white door announces. A bath vanity in this value also avoids the slow yellowing that catches up with off-white vanities over a decade.
Pairing Ideas
Countertops
Bright white quartz gives the cleanest result: Cambria Portrush or Salt Lake read crisp against a neutral gray without introducing a second undertone. Cambria Inverness Everleigh brings marble-look veining if the room needs movement. Cream options like Cambria Avalene or Risegate are possible, but they warm the gray noticeably — choose them only if that is the effect you are after.

Gray on gray is the risk here, so if you go with MSI Chilcott Bright or MSI Ice Bevel subway, keep the tile a clear step lighter than the doors. White subway is the reliable pairing — MSI Metro White 4x16 Glossy adds a little shine, MSI Arabescato Venato White adds veining. MSI Calacatta Gold Matte brings warmth in from the wall side.
Backsplash tile →Hardware
Nickel the color and nickel the metal are not the same thing, and the Berenson Bravo 56mm Brushed Nickel Pull can disappear against these doors. Matte black gives the sharpest definition — the Berenson Metro 160mm. For something warmer without going gold, the Berenson Epoch Edge 128mm Vintage Nickel Pull holds its own against the gray.

Cool grays stack badly, so avoid a gray-washed floor unless a monochrome room is the goal. Warm wood is the better foil: engineered or solid hardwood in a mid-brown gives the kitchen a floor to stand on. LVP in a light oak look does the same job where water is a concern, and a warm-toned porcelain tile works in a mudroom.
