Fabuwood Forest Green Kitchen Cabinets

Available on Galaxy, Luna, Fusion, Nexus, Luxe and Echo doors

Expect something duller and grayer than the name suggests. Forest Green is a mid-tone, heavily muted olive — the green is there, but it is filtered through a lot of gray, and in some light it reads closer to a khaki. That restraint is exactly what makes it usable across a whole kitchen.

Forest Green on each door

Color & Look

Forest Green sits in the middle of the value scale, around the same depth as a mid gray, with very little chroma behind it. The hue leans yellow-green, which is what gives it the olive character. There is no blue in it at all, so it never reads as a pine or an emerald. In practice it behaves like a warm gray that happens to have green in it, and that is how most people describe it once it is installed.

North light strips most of the green out and leaves a warm gray. It is the least green this color ever looks, and it is worth seeing before you commit to it. Under south or west light the olive is clear, particularly in the afternoon when the yellow side of the hue comes forward. Warm bulbs at night have a similar effect. If your kitchen faces north and you want the green to be obvious, this may be too muted a choice.

The most common surprise is that Forest Green is not dark. People hear the name and picture a deep, saturated green, and this is a mid-tone, closer in weight to a greige cabinet than to a dark one. It is painted opaque and low in sheen, with no grain and no glaze, so the color sits flat and consistent across the flat faces. The bevels and the panel shadow supply the door’s only tonal variation.

Construction & Quality

Forest Green is a Fabuwood Allure finish. It is available on Galaxy, Luna, Fusion, Nexus, Luxe and Echo doors, all built on plywood cabinet boxes with solid-wood drawer boxes assembled with dovetail joints.

On the framed panel doors, the door frames are joined with mortise-and-tenon joinery. Every Fabuwood cabinet is fitted with Blum soft-close hinges and drawer systems. Fabuwood backs its cabinetry with a lifetime warranty, with a separate Blum warranty on the hardware, and lists CARB2 compliance and ICC-ES and AWI/QCP certification.

Fabuwood groups its colors in tiers. Forest Green is a Designer color, which is made to order rather than stocked, so it is worth allowing for that in the schedule.

Where It Works

Because it holds a mid value rather than a dark one, Forest Green can run through a whole kitchen without making the room heavy. That is its main advantage over the darker greens. It suits transitional and traditional kitchens, and it has a slightly vintage, utilitarian quality that works well with plain door styles and simple hardware. In a room short on daylight, keeping it below the counter and running something light above still helps.

It is a natural fit for the working rooms. Mudroom lockers and benches in a muted olive hide dirt and still look intentional. Laundry cabinets in it are more interesting than white without being a decision anyone has to labour over. In a bath it makes a good vanity under a cream or white top, and in a study or a bar it gives built-ins a quiet, slightly older character.

Pairing Ideas

Countertops

Bright white keeps the olive clean and stops it drifting towards beige. Vicostone Lacus, Vicostone Camarina and Vicostone Aspen are all near-solid whites that do this simply. Vicostone Madreperola is another near-solid option with a softer face. If you want warmth, Cambria Bradshaw in cream with marble-look veining, or Vicostone Galilea, pull the scheme in a gentler direction.

Backsplash

Cool tile brings the green out and warm tile pushes it towards khaki, so decide which you want first. MSI Smoky Alps Interlocking 8mm and MSI Taos Interlocking in gray glass sharpen the color. MSI Metropolitan Marble Pebble and MSI Pixie Cloud Glass in white lift the wall. MSI Sandhills Interlocking Glass in cream is the warmest and most forgiving.

Hardware

Black is the strongest read against a muted olive, and the Berenson Metro 160mm gives a crisp, modern line. Brass and champagne warm the yellow already in the color, which can be lovely or can tip the whole thing towards gold, so look at both. Brushed nickel in the Berenson Bravo 56mm is the neutral choice and keeps the green in charge.

Floors

This color is close enough to a warm gray that floor contrast matters. A light oak keeps the room bright and leaves the green as the darker element. A darker hardwood gives the cabinets somewhere to stop. What we would avoid is a greige LVP at a similar value, where the cabinets and floor blur together and the green stops reading as green.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, and this catches people out. It is a mid-value color, similar in depth to a mid gray, and much lighter than the name implies. If you want a dark, dramatic green kitchen, Hunter Green is the one to look at instead. Forest Green is for people who want a green that behaves more or less like a neutral.
Both, depending on the hour. In direct sun the olive is obvious. In north light or under cool bulbs it can drop back to a warm gray. Cool surroundings — gray tile, a bright white counter — hold the green forward. Warm cream surfaces alongside it push it further towards khaki, which some people like and some do not.
White and bright work best. A crisp white countertop and a light backsplash keep the olive looking like a design choice rather than a uniform. Black hardware helps, because it reads modern. What tips it the other way is an all-warm scheme, where cream tile, a cream counter and brass together with an olive cabinet can look more period than intended.
