Fabuwood Agua Marina Matte Kitchen Cabinets

Available on the Catalina door

Sea glass is the closest shorthand — a muted blue-green that sits right on the line between the two, with plenty of gray keeping it calm. Agua Marina Matte has no sheen at all, which suits a color this soft; a gloss would have made it look like a swimming pool.

Color & Look

The hue sits exactly between blue and green — not a teal, which usually pushes further toward blue, and not a sage, which pushes green. Its saturation is low, so gray does most of the work and the color reads as a soft, dusty aqua rather than anything bright. The value is in the middle: light enough to feel airy, deep enough to be clearly a color. The matte face is flat and even, with no texture, grain or sheen.

This is a color that changes its mind with the light. North light pulls it toward gray-green and quiets it right down, which is often the most flattering version. South and west sun bring the blue forward and it starts to look genuinely coastal. Under warm artificial light it greens noticeably — worth knowing if the kitchen is used mostly in the evening. The matte surface means none of this is masked by a highlight; what the light does, you see.

The two usual misreadings are sage green and pale teal, depending on the day and the bulb. It is neither, but the fact that it can pass for both is the reason it sits so comfortably with natural stone and wood. Among the blues in this series it is by some way the lightest and softest — set it beside Azul Indigo Matte or Azul Marino Matte and those read as serious, saturated blues while this one reads as a tint. It is the blue for people who do not want a blue kitchen.

Construction & Quality

Agua Marina Matte belongs to Fabuwood’s Illume & Ovela series — European frameless construction with applied gloss, matte and textured surfaces rather than paint or stain.

Every Fabuwood cabinet is fitted with Blum soft-close hinges and drawer systems. Fabuwood backs its cabinetry with a lifetime warranty, with a separate Blum warranty on the hardware, and lists CARB2 compliance and ICC-ES and AWI/QCP certification.

Fabuwood groups its colors in tiers. Agua Marina Matte is a Designer color, which is made to order rather than stocked, so it is worth allowing for that in the schedule.

Where It Works

It carries a whole kitchen well, which is unusual for a color. The value is light enough not to shrink a room and the gray in it stops a full run from feeling sugary. In a bright kitchen it is soft and easy; in a north-facing one it goes greener and cooler, so warm the room back up with the counter, the floor and the metals. On an island alone it is a gentle feature rather than a statement.

Style-wise it is more flexible than the slab door suggests — contemporary, coastal and transitional rooms all take it. Outside the kitchen it is one of our favorite bathroom colors, especially on a vanity under a white stone top, and it does good work in a laundry where a white would feel clinical. A butler’s pantry or bar in this color reads fresh. It is also a sensible choice for kitchen lowers under white uppers.

Pairing Ideas

Countertops

Gray quartzite is the most sympathetic partner — MSI Fantasy Macaubas or Taj Mahal, both near-solid, share the same soft, dusty quality. Granite is worth considering here too: MSI Luna Pearl or Crema Atlantico bring natural flecking that flatters a muted color. For a crisper look, Cambria Lakedale in bright white sharpens the whole scheme.

Backsplash

White stone keeps this fresh. MSI Eden Statuary White or Carrara White Milano Ribbo 12x24 give a clean veined wall that lets the color stay the feature. MSI Pietra Bernini Camo Porcelain in cream is the warmer option and takes the chill off a north-facing room. MSI Calacatta Marbella Porcelain in gray is the most tonal choice.

Hardware

Warm metal is what this color wants. Brushed gold or champagne pulls make the blue-green look intentional rather than accidental, and the warmth counteracts the gray. Vintage nickel is the softer, more traditional partner. Bright chrome and matte black both work but push the scheme cooler, so use them only if the rest of the room is warm.

Floors

Warm wood is the natural counterweight. A medium oak engineered hardwood or a honey-toned LVP puts back exactly the warmth this color lacks. Pale wood keeps everything light and coastal. A cool gray tile floor is the one combination to be careful with — gray floor and gray-green cabinets can leave the room with nothing warm in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Genuinely both, which is the appeal and the difficulty. It sits on the boundary, so the room decides: cool north light and it greens, warm sun and it blues, warm bulbs and it greens again. If you need it to land on one side, choose the counter and the wall color to push it there. A sample in your own light is the only reliable test.
Not with the right counter. Against a bright white quartz it looks crisp and deliberate. Against a busy, colorful stone it can lose its footing, because there is not much saturation in it to compete. The matte finish also helps — a flat surface holds a muted color better than a gloss, which tends to bleach out anything this soft.
Either. Unlike the deeper blues in this series, it is light enough to run across every cabinet without darkening the room, and a full kitchen in it looks calm rather than themed. If you want it quieter still, put it on the lowers with white above. We would only avoid a full run in a room that is already very cool and short of light.
A warm white is the easiest — it keeps the blue-green clean without adding a second color to the room. Soft greige walls also work and warm the scheme. Avoid a cool gray in a similar value, which mutes the cabinets to the point of looking dirty, and avoid another blue or green on the walls unless you are deliberately layering tones.
