Bertch Agave Bathroom Vanity Finish

Offered on Bertch’s Classic and Furniture vanities

Agave is a mid-depth blue-green, a muted teal with a lot of gray in it. It is darker than Sage and bluer than Juniper, and on a bathroom vanity it reads as a color without ever reading as a bright one. It suits people who want some depth under a pale top.

Color & Look

The color is a mid-tone blue-green: enough blue to keep it from being a true green, enough gray to keep it from being a true teal. It sits at a middle value, darker than Sage by a wide margin and lighter than Juniper. The paint is opaque, one even plane, with no grain showing through. Think of a eucalyptus leaf, or copper that has oxidized but not yet gone chalky, with the saturation turned down a stop.

Lighting swings this one between its two halves. Warm bulbs over a mirror pull the green forward and Agave reads softer, almost sage-like from across the room. Cool daylight pushes the blue and it goes closer to a dusty teal. A mirror facing the vanity lights the door faces from two directions at once, which flattens the color, so it is worth taping a sample to the cabinet wall and watching it for a day before ordering.

Most people guess teal, some say slate blue, a few call it a dark sage. All three are reasonable, because the gray in it makes the hue hard to pin down. It is commonly confused with Juniper, which is the deeper and greener of the two; Agave is lighter and noticeably bluer when they sit together. The sheen is a low satin and the surface is dead even, with no glaze pooled and no texture beyond the paint.

Series & Construction

Agave is one of Bertch’s painted colors, offered on the Classic and Furniture series. Classic is Bertch’s framed series, built in solid hardwood and offered in more door styles and finishes than any other — stains, painted colors and hand-applied glazes across eight wood species.

Bertch builds these on 3/4" solid hardwood door frames with raised or flat panels, 5/8" solid hardwood drawer boxes dovetailed front and back, and plywood floors, backs and shelves with a natural birch veneer interior. Undermount soft-close drawer glides and concealed soft-close hinges come standard.

Every Bertch vanity is built to order in Waterloo, Iowa: configurations, storage solutions, tops and finishes are selected per project, nothing is off-the-shelf. Bertch warrants its products to be free from defects in material or workmanship for as long as they are owned by the original purchaser.

Where It Works

Agave is the better of the saturated colors for a small bathroom, because its mid value keeps a powder room from going cave-like the way a deep navy or forest green can. It still wants light: one small window and warm bulbs will do, while a windowless interior room needs the walls kept pale. On a floating vanity the color reads modern; on a freestanding piece with legs it reads coastal.

A mid-value painted color is the most forgiving thing in a bathroom for upkeep. Dust does not show the way it does on near-black, and toothpaste does not show the way it does on white. Hard water can leave a faint film if it dries repeatedly in one spot, and a damp cloth takes it off. Among the Classic styles, Agave suits Craftwood and Alden, and it gives Centennial a softer, less traditional read.

Pairing Ideas

Vanity Top

Pale tops give Agave the contrast it needs. Bertch Jasmine White — Veined Quartz and Bertch Frost — Oasis Solid Surface are the brightest, and Bertch Nimbus — Oasis Solid Surface is a soft off-white. Bertch Concrete — Oasis Solid Surface keeps things tonal and gray, while Bertch Twilight — Oasis Solid Surface goes dark. For a custom slab, Vicostone Forza — white quartz.

Sink & Bowl

Oasis tops carry an integrated bowl, so the pale counter runs straight down into the basin with no rim between them — a clean break from a colored cabinet. Veined quartz takes an undermount bowl set below the deck. One bowl or two is the real decision: a second bowl almost always takes the center drawer bank, and in a bathroom drawers are scarce.

Hardware & Legs

Brass is the classic answer against blue-green. The Berenson Swagger 96mm Modern Brushed Gold Pull and the Berenson 128mm Champagne Bar Pull both warm it up. For something cooler and quieter, use the Berenson Bravo 56mm Brushed Nickel Pull. Richelieu Inspiration section — knurled, ribbed or fluted pieces in gold or brass add a little texture against an otherwise flat color.

Mirror & Lighting

A round or arched mirror narrower than the vanity softens a colored cabinet and keeps the eye moving upward. Sconces on either side at roughly face height give the most flattering light, where an overhead fixture alone darkens the color on the door faces. Leave a visible margin of counter on both sides of the glass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Blue-green, and which half you see depends on the light. Warm bulbs bring the green out and daylight brings the blue forward. The gray in the mix is what keeps it from committing either way. If you need a color that always reads green, Juniper is the safer pick; if you want it to lean blue, Monsoon goes considerably further.
Less than a deep color would. Agave sits at a mid value, so it absorbs some light but not most of it, and against a white top with pale walls a powder room still reads open. The arrangement that gets people into trouble is a saturated vanity, saturated walls and a dark floor all working at once.
They are easy to confuse in a photograph and obvious in person. Juniper is a deeper forest green with a gray cast and almost no blue in it. Agave is lighter and clearly bluer, closer to a dusty teal. If you want the vanity to anchor the room, choose Juniper. If you want color without the weight, Agave.
