J&K Traditional Cabinet Doors

Traditional is the most decorated of J&K’s three families. These are the doors with shaped frames and raised panels, the ones that throw real shadow and give a glaze somewhere to settle. Five door styles sit here: A7 Crème Glazed, K10 Mocha Glazed, J5 Mahogany, M01 Chocolate Glazed and CO66 Cinnamon Glazed — four of the five listed in a glazed finish.

Construction

Underneath the profile, these are built exactly like the rest of the line: 100% solid wood, a 3/4″ thick solid-wood full-overlay door, and drawers of 5/8″ solid wood on all sides in dovetail construction. The box is cabinet-grade plywood with a clear-coated interior and corner-bracket reinforcement in the base cabinets.

Doors hang on 6-way adjustable, soft-close hidden Euro-style hinges; drawers run on soft-close concealed undermount glides, and the doors carry quiet-closing bumpers.

The finish matters more on a shaped door than a flat one, and J&K’s is a ten-step, hand-rubbed process: an equalizer stain to balance the wood, a toner for even color, a deep penetrating stain to draw out the grain, then hand-rubbing, sealing, hand-sanding, an optional hand-applied glaze and a final top coat. The hardwood-plywood is EPA TSCA Title VI (CARB 2) compliant and the coatings are AkzoNobel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Profile. These doors carry shaped frames and raised or deeply stepped panels rather than the flat faces of the contemporary group. That shaping is what creates the shadow lines people read as traditional, and it is also what gives a hand-applied glaze an edge to collect against.
Because glaze needs somewhere to sit. J&K’s finishing process includes an optional hand-applied glaze, and on a shaped door it gathers in the corners and along the profile, picking out the detail. Four of the five styles in this family are listed in a glazed finish; on a flat contemporary door the same glaze would have far less to do.
J&K lists CO66 Cinnamon Glazed twice in its spec book — once in contemporary and once in traditional — on two different door profiles. Same finish name, two different doors. Our page for it shows both, so you can see which profile you are actually choosing before you order.
