Fabuwood Antracita Kitchen Cabinets
Available on the Tuscany door
Black kitchens have moved from novelty to something we quote regularly. Antracita is the softer way into one: a very dark charcoal rather than a true black, carrying a faint gray-green cast that keeps it from looking like a void. On a matte shaker face it comes across as solid and calm rather than hard.

Color & Look
The value is close to black — low enough that most people will simply call it black — but it is measurably lighter than one, and the hue carries a barely-there green-gray rather than a blue or brown bias. That neutrality is why it sits comfortably next to almost anything. A blue-black fights warm wood and a brown-black fights cool stone. This one does neither, and that is the practical case for a charcoal over a true black.
In full daylight the difference from black is visible: the face lightens and the shaker profile becomes readable across the room. In low light it closes up and each door becomes a single dark rectangle with the panel edge barely showing. Because the surface is matte, there are no highlights tracing the door shape, so the lighting design does more work here than it would with a gloss finish. Under-cabinet lighting is not optional.
Almost everyone says black. Set it against a genuinely black appliance panel or a matte black pull and the gap shows, since this is a shade lighter and slightly softer. Graphite and gunmetal are the other common descriptions. On the shaker door shown the recess is crisp and square, but on a color this dark that shadow line reads as a faint change in tone rather than a defined edge, and it largely disappears at night.
Construction & Quality
Antracita belongs to Fabuwood’s Illume & Ovela series — European frameless construction with applied gloss, matte and textured surfaces rather than paint or stain.
Every Fabuwood cabinet is fitted with Blum soft-close hinges and drawer systems. Fabuwood backs its cabinetry with a lifetime warranty, with a separate Blum warranty on the hardware, and lists CARB2 compliance and ICC-ES and AWI/QCP certification.
Fabuwood groups its colors in tiers. Antracita is a Designer color, which is made to order rather than stocked, so it is worth allowing for that in the schedule.
Where It Works
A full kitchen in Antracita is a strong, deliberate look, and it needs light to work: windows, bright counters, and a backsplash that returns some of it. More often we use it below the counter, on an island, or on a run of tall cabinets against a pale perimeter, where the depth gives the room an anchor without swallowing it whole. In a large open room it holds its own at scale.
It belongs in modern and contemporary kitchens and suits a monochrome scheme where the appliances are also dark. Outside the kitchen it makes a strong bar color, a good office built-in and a smart bath vanity against white tile. Mudrooms take it well since scuffs vanish on it, though dust and lint are visible on a dark matte surface and will need attention more often than you might expect.
Pairing Ideas
Countertops
The brighter the counter, the better this color looks. MSI Aurataj and MSI Perla White are near-solid whites that draw a hard line across the top of the cabinets. For movement, MSI Carrara Delphi and MSI Calacatta Vicenza bring marble-look veining in gray tones that keep the scheme cool and graphic. MSI Calacatta Macaubas is a cream quartzite for a warmer take.
Countertops we carry →Backsplash
Bright is the usual answer. MSI Porcelain Tile Blanc Oxide and MSI Miraggio Gold Porcelain both give a white field that lifts the wall above dark cabinets. If you would rather the room stayed tonal, MSI Porcelain Tile Graphite Watercolor keeps things in the charcoal family and reads as one mass. MSI Livingstyle Cream Ridge is the warm option.
Backsplash tile →Hardware
Contrast or disappear — both are valid here. Brushed gold and champagne stand out sharply against the charcoal and are the choice when you want the hardware seen, and the Berenson 128mm Champagne Bar Pull does that cleanly. Brushed nickel is the cooler contrast. Matte black nearly merges with the doors, giving a seamless look on a modern run.
Pulls & knobs →Floors
Light floors are the reliable partner, since they give the eye somewhere to go. A pale engineered hardwood or a light LVP will do it. Mid-tone warm wood also works and takes the chill off a dark kitchen. A very dark floor under very dark cabinets can look cohesive but needs a large room and plenty of light to avoid feeling heavy.
