Bertch Edgewood Bathroom Vanity Style

Classic series · Framed

Edgewood is the middle ground among Bertch’s framed flat-panel doors. The panel is flat and recessed like a shaker, but the inner edge of the frame is chamfered rather than cut square, so the shadow around each panel softens instead of snapping. It reads simple without reading severe, which suits most bathrooms.

Design & Profile

Start at the panel edge, because that is the whole difference. On Edgewood the frame does not stop square at the panel; it is cut back on a small angle first, a chamfer no wider than a fingernail, before the surface drops to the recess. In the photo the line around the panel is a narrow lit band rather than a hard dark groove. The outer edges of the door are eased in the same spirit, so the piece has no knife corners anywhere on it.

The drawers follow suit. The wide top drawer is framed in its own right, with a long, shallow recessed panel and the same chamfer running around it, which gives the band above the sink a thin highlight along its whole length. The stacked drawers beside the door each hold a small flat panel with the same treatment. The rails and stiles are a touch wider than on the squarest doors in the series, which slows the front down.

The reveals here are generous. There is visible face frame between the door and the drawer bank, and the gaps around each piece are wide enough to read as real separations. That gives the vanity the look of a built piece with parts, rather than one slab — useful when a bathroom already has a lot going on in the tile and you want the cabinet to feel calm but not blank. In a tight room it is a forgiving door.

Series & Construction

Edgewood is part of Bertch’s Classic series — framed. Classic is Bertch’s framed series, built in solid hardwood and offered in more door styles and finishes than any other — stains, painted colors and hand-applied glazes across eight wood species.

Bertch builds these on 3/4" solid hardwood door frames with raised or flat panels, 5/8" solid hardwood drawer boxes dovetailed front and back, and plywood floors, backs and shelves with a natural birch veneer interior. Undermount soft-close drawer glides and concealed soft-close hinges come standard.

Every Bertch vanity is built to order in Waterloo, Iowa: configurations, storage solutions, tops and finishes are selected per project, nothing is off-the-shelf. Bertch warrants its products to be free from defects in material or workmanship for as long as they are owned by the original purchaser.

Finishes

The chamfer is small, and that shapes what each finish can do. A glaze has one place to settle — the angled band around each panel — so instead of aging the whole door it draws a fine, slightly darker outline, which is a subtle effect rather than a dramatic one. Paint reads as a single even color across the flats and then picks up a soft highlight along every chamfer, which is why painted Edgewood photographs better than it describes.

In stain, the broad flat panel does most of the talking. Grain runs uninterrupted across the panel face and then stops at the chamfer, so the door is really a frame of short grain around one long sweep of it. Species choice matters more here than profile choice. We pull sample doors in the finish and the species together, because a chip on its own will not show you that.

Pairing Ideas

Vanity Top

Bertch’s made-to-order tops are the starting point. Bertch Pewter — Oasis Solid Surface and Bertch Jameson — Oasis Solid Surface sit well under a soft-edged door, and Bertch Simply Grey — Veined Quartz adds light pattern without noise. Bertch Walnut Toffee — Oasis Solid Surface goes warmer. For custom stone, Cambria Dovestone — white quartz is a clean match.

Sink & Bowl

With an Oasis top the bowl is integrated into the surface, so the basin and deck arrive as one piece and there is no rim to scrub around. Undermount bowls are the route under quartz or stone. Deciding between one bowl and two is mostly about storage: a second bowl usually costs you the drawer bank in the middle of the cabinet.

Hardware & Legs

A chamfered edge takes both knobs and pulls. The Berenson Bravo 56mm Brushed Nickel Pull (brushed nickel) keeps it plain; the Berenson Swagger 96mm Modern Brushed Gold Pull (brushed gold) adds warmth without weight. Ribbed pieces from the Richelieu Inspiration section in chrome suit the softened edges. If the cabinet sits raised, Wood Leg 03 keeps it simple.

Mirror & Lighting

Hold the mirror a little inside the cabinet width so the vanity still reads wider than what sits above it. Sconces at either side give even light across a face and skim the chamfers, which is when this door looks its best. A single overhead fixture flattens them out and the door loses some of its definition.

Frequently Asked Questions

One detail: the inner edge of the frame. Alden stops square at the panel and throws a hard dark line. Edgewood cuts a small chamfer there first, so the line turns into a soft lit band. Alden also runs tighter reveals between the pieces. If you want the shaker idea with the hard edges taken off, Edgewood is the one.
A square flat panel has been in and out of fashion for a century and is still here, which is about as good a sign as a door style gets. Edgewood is a mild version of it, without the hard geometry that marks a particular decade. In practice the finish and the hardware date faster than the door shape, and both are easier to change.
It is one of the easier doors to live with. The flats wipe in a single pass and the chamfer is shallow enough that nothing collects in it. Soft-close hinges and drawer glides come standard, which matters more in a shared bath than anywhere else. A mid-tone stain or paint will hide water spots better than a very dark or very pale finish.
