Bertch Braelyn Bathroom Vanity Finish
Offered on Bertch’s Linea frameless vanities
Braelyn is a textured woodgrain foil in a dark, smoky brown. The grain runs straight and vertical with a visible embossed texture you can feel, and the color sits between espresso and weathered walnut. It suits a bathroom that wants wood tones without the maintenance of a stained hardwood door.

Color & Look
The ground color is a deep brown with a gray cast over it — closer to a smoked walnut than to a red-brown. Narrow lighter streaks run the full height of the chip, some almost taupe, and they are what keeps the finish from reading as a solid dark door. There is no red or orange in it anywhere. Against a warm brass pull the brown warms a little; against white quartz it reads cooler and grayer than you would expect.
The surface is textured, not printed flat, so the grain is registered to the pattern and catches light along its length. In a bathroom with one window, the doors nearest the glass show the texture clearly and the rest of the run goes quieter and darker. Warm bulbs bring the brown forward; daylight brings out the gray. A mirror reflecting light back across the front picks the texture up again on the opposite side.
Most people take it for a real walnut or a dark-stained oak, and at arm’s length it passes — the texture is what sells it. What gives it away is consistency: the grain pattern repeats across doors in a way sawn lumber does not, and there is no cathedral figure anywhere, just straight vertical striping. There is no glaze and no sheen. The finish is matte enough that the texture, rather than reflection, is what you read.
Series & Construction
Braelyn is one of Bertch’s matte & textured foils, offered on the Linea series. Linea is Bertch’s contemporary frameless collection — full-access European construction, flat slab and reveal doors, high-gloss acrylic and matte or textured foil, freestanding or wall-mounted.
Bertch builds these full-access frameless, with 5/8" solid hardwood drawer boxes dovetailed front and back and plywood floors, backs and shelves. Undermount soft-close drawer glides and concealed soft-close hinges come standard.
Every Bertch vanity is built to order in Waterloo, Iowa: configurations, storage solutions, tops and finishes are selected per project, nothing is off-the-shelf. Bertch warrants its products to be free from defects in material or workmanship for as long as they are owned by the original purchaser.
Where It Works
Braelyn gives a bathroom warmth without brightness, which makes it useful in a primary bath where a white vanity would feel sterile and a black one would feel cold. In a powder room it reads as furniture, particularly freestanding on wood legs. In a small windowless room it is dark but not flat — the grain gives the eye something to do, which a solid dark foil does not. A pale top is still worth having.
The texture is a practical advantage. Water spots, fingerprints and dust all have somewhere to disappear into, so this is one of the easier dark finishes to keep looking right near a sink. Wipe along the grain and nothing streaks. On Freya, Joss, Ridley or Sullivan the flat fronts let the vertical grain run the full height of the cabinet, which is the point — a profiled door would chop it up.
Pairing Ideas
Vanity Top
Bertch Simply Grey — Veined Quartz is the pairing we reach for first; the gray picks up the gray in the grain. Bertch Arctic — Oasis Solid Surface is the clean bright option, and Bertch Concrete — Oasis Solid Surface or Bertch Pebble — Oasis Solid Surface sit quietly between. For a custom slab, Cambria Brittanicca Gold Warm — cream quartz warms it up.
Bertch vanity tops →Sink & Bowl
Bertch’s Oasis tops are built with the bowl integrated, so the bowl shape is part of the top selection and there is no rim break on the deck. Quartz tops take an undermount bowl. On a wood-look vanity we often argue for a single bowl — the second one removes the center drawers, and the grain runs better across an uninterrupted bank.
Hardware & Legs
Warm metals suit the brown without competing: the Berenson 128mm Champagne Bar Pull or the Berenson Swagger 96mm Modern Brushed Gold Pull. The Berenson Metro 160mm Matte Black Pull is the sharper, more contemporary route. We would skip wood legs here, since a second wood tone rarely matches — the Metal Leg or the Mid-Century Modern Leg Base is cleaner.
Pulls & knobs →Mirror & Lighting
A mirror roughly the width of the sink, set a few inches in from the ends of the vanity, lets the grain on the outer doors stay visible. Sconces at the sides throw light across the texture and bring the grain out. An overhead fixture on its own flattens it, and the doors read as plain dark brown.
